PROJECT TITLE: Electrochromic devices fabrication for efficient energy management
PROJECT ACRONYM: ELCHROM
PROJECT TYPE: Demonstrative Experimental Project
Project duration: 8th January 2025 – 31st December 2026
PARTNERS: National Institute for Laser, Plasma & Radiation Physics (INFLPR)
MGM STAR CONSTRUCT S.R.L.
PROJECT SUMMARY:
The ELCHROM project aims to develop and to validate an experimental laboratory demonstrator for electrochromic applications, specifically focusing on smart windows (SW). The ELCHROM proposes an all-solid-state configuration based on inorganic materials, emphasizing the use of pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method for fabrication. The project intends to fabricate two types of SW devices based on novel heterostructures incorporating materials like tungsten oxide, tantalum oxide, tantalum-tungsten oxide, and molybdenum disulfide. These materials, chosen for their nanostructures or mesoporous morphology, offer improved electrical conductivity and faster switching times. The PLD, a clean and versatile method, will be used to grow single layers and heterostructures, ensuring precise control over composition and morphology. The project's methodology involves precise steps from evaluation of suitable SW configurations to testing and validation of SW demonstrators. Activities are structured into stages focusing on processing single-layer components, fabricating functional heterostructures, and integrating, testing, and validating SW demonstrators. Comprehensive characterization techniques will be employed to assess the morphology, structure, composition, optical, and electrical properties of the fabricated layers and heterostructures. Leveraging previous research in materials processing, ELCHROM aims to advance smart window technology for enhanced energy efficiency and human comfort.
